Welcome... Body Esthetics
Robert H Dennis II, M.D., FACS Body esthetics has its roots in antiquity dating back as far as 30,000 BC. Contouring consisted mainly of girdles, corsets and strapping to achieve the desired look and shape prior to the 1960's. Breast reduction techniques have been sporadically recorded over the last hundred years but only recently, since the 1930's and 1940's, have techniques been developed which addressed preservation of nipple function and nipple sensation. Current techniques consistently and reliably preserve nipple function and sensitivity. Reports began appearing in the Plastic Surgery literature in the 1960's, principally from South America, of procedures being performed to improve abdominal shape and contour and get rid of excess fat and skin. These techniques have undergone many modifications over the years until now abdominoplasty is an accepted and common procedure. In the late 1970's, reports started coming out of Europe regarding techniques to remove fat by suctioning. These procedures are evolving as regards instrumentation, technique and indications and is one of the most exciting areas of body contouring.
